My cat has never scratched a couch in his 7 years of life. How can I make this cute before we move?

I live in a house of very creative and artistic folks, so I want to make this couch cute and repair this damage before we move out. Could I patch it? I can embroider, crossstich, etc. and I think the landlord/roommate would like something botanical/celestial.
Don’t need advice on the cat, he has scratchers, cat trees, toys, galore to scratch.
