How to get or make custom sized desktops cheaply?

Post Body

Hello! I am finally making dedicated spaces for certain projects in my place. My aim is to have two desktops of specific dimensions and a wood finish that will last with one having a drawer.

Currently one of them has this piece from Ikea which is honestly amazing and economical at only $130 and I would get all my desktops from Ikea if I could but they dont really make them as narrow as I want. To save space I am trying to make the desktops be around 43"x26".

I think where Ikea cuts cost is by making these in bulk and that they are filled with not hard wood among other things. I just don't get why there isn't more demand for space saving narrow desktops of about that dimension.

Anyone have any other ideas of where I might be able to find cheap finished tabletops at a reasonable price? Sites that do these custom quote me around $575 per tabletop which is going to be more expensive than I acquired the legs for (used).

Maybe some other site sells "wood" looking tabletops filled with cheaper materials?

Alternatively are there like people that I can hire and pay hourly materials etc to have this done? If I had any carpentry skills I would think making a tabletop like this wouldn't take forever. Maybe many many hours but not $575 for sure. I just have realized to do this on my own I need to learn and have the tools to square the wood, round its edges, sand its corners, stain, apply a finish. None of this I am capable of.
