So my wife of 37 years has recently been diagnosed and we have been working on finding our way through all of this. So far we have identified 6 different alters within her system. There is the woman I have known for the past 37 years (the host), her protector, one is a younger version of her and very flirtatious, there is one who is pissed off at the world, one who is living in a distant past (1600's) and one who seems to be well no other way to put it a slut. We have been making good progress in identifying when she switches, and how long each fronts. So far thankfully they all agree to allowing the host to perform her normal duties for work, although most of them seem to understand her job well and have functioned doing it when needed. Recently however she has said that when she sees the door that they are all behind, she has to walk through it to let one out, however she said the slut is never in there and she is out in the main room. she said she can see and hear her all the time, while the others seem to need her to walk through the door to see them even though she can hear them as long as the door is open. last week she said when she went to the door it was closed, and she could not open it. She did have an issue one afternoon and told them all she wished she could keep them locked up. From what i have been reading and the therapist we see says locking them up is not a good move as they will force themselves out. We are currently working on some boundaries that everyone would need to follow, and that was going well.
How is it the one seems to be out and freely moving about within her while the others are stuck behind the door?
So far we have not had any major issues with this, but I am starting to feel a bit uneasy about not being able to communicate with the others anymore as we were finally making progress.
I am going to see the therapist next week, but looking for help in the mean time...
