Why do almost no dc characters have extended family?

Why is it that almost no one has cousins, aunts, uncles, or even grandparents. Their parents die and then they have no family anywhere. Batman has one cousin in Batwoman, and a Van Wayne who only showed up at one comic a billion years ago. I find it hard to believe that Barry Allen or the Kents have no one else in their family. Starfire and the Shazamily are like the only ones I know that actually have family, and both of those are weird.

Do you guys know any other heroes that aren't just single childs with parents who were single childs and so on?
