So, I am currently watching a playthrough of the Injustice games and Doctor Fate just showed up. I think he's really cool and I remembered thinking that Pierce Brosnan did a good job playing him (maybe he got the character wrong, I wouldn't know, I'm just a casual fan). I started wondering why the movie got poor reception when there were things to like about it.
I enjoyed the ensemble of heroes for the most part (the whole them fighting eachother before joining to face a common enemy is a bit played out at this point after Justice League), I thought Atom was funny and charismatic, and I loved the part where Paint It Black starts playing slowly and it took me a few seconds to realize why the tune sounded so familiar.
But while I was thinking about things I enjoyed, I realized that I honest to god can't remember who the bad guy was. Maybe it was like, a guy with similar powers to Black Adam like in Shazam, or maybe it was an alien invasion like in Justice League. But I kind of want to try and remember what it was without looking it up.
I recall the villain in the flashbacks, the evil king, but I can't recall if that had any bearing on the current threats. There was an oppressive military force but I don't think that was especially dire enough for the other heros to stop fighting Adam for, right? Honestly I'm not this bad at remembering movie plots usually!
Either way, the film was able to have fun moments but the threat was so unmemorable that it takes away from it heavily. I know this isn't a timely or relevant discussion, but it's just one that occurred to me.
