They lessen the strain of the new "Dokkanfest or don't play" content cycle we have. Now even if you don't have one of the 3-4 units of relevance to this Dokkanfest you still have a reason to participate, which overall makes the content more inclusive.
Not a bad solution. More content opened up to more people and a pretty good unit for free. I'd say my original request to fix some morale has been honored pretty well.
