DAE have to see/be introduced to a person several times before they can recognize them?

I have to meet someone usually at least half a dozen times before my brain can recognize their face or name. Unless they have some very distinct feature like a scar of tattoo, their face won’t register. And if they change their appearance, like grow a beard, change their hair style, etc. I have to start all over.

I am bad at remembering faces and names all the time. I don't know why. Might be because I am not interested into knowing them more.
