I work for an insurance company that has been around for a very long time. I know it’s going to be a bad call if they “I’ve been a member for ## years. On one hand, I’m like BFD. The other is how can a company force people who have been with the business for 50 years to evolve with technology ? I speak to people every day who absolutely refuse to get a cell phone & the app or a pc/laptop. Some are willing & they try but they just don’t get it. They refuse to cooperate with the IVR &/or authentication processes like the text message (most don’t know how to even navigate retrieving a text while on the phone. Yeah all of this generation of clients will be dead soon but can we not make their lives easier in the meantime? It makes their life harder, they take it out on us. I had no hand in the web site or app development. It’s not my damn fault they refuse to follow the rest of the world into the age of technology. When members tell me how pissed they are & are willing to shop for other service providers, I don’t blame them.
Then there are those that have absolutely no idea how insurance works in terms of premiums, how the premiums are calculated, how the periods run. Just pay the damn bill. You don’t have to understand it, I can’t make you understand it or agree that insurance can’t just be based on your own risk profile. We cannot calculate (we could but it would take hours) how much an auto premium is for a calendar year because that’s not how insurance periods run unless you are smart enough to start your policy on January 1. Stop asking us to essentially do your taxes for you. Take your bills & policy packet to your accountant. You yourself don’t need to know the numbers. I’m not a mathematician or an actuary.
Yes, that claim you filed on a no fault or at fault is going to raise your premium. Insurance has to stay liquid somehow. They pay money out & have to recoup those losses somehow. And it’s shared cost, you do have to pay for other peoples idiocy.
Stop being an asshole on the phone. I’m just the messenger and it is what it is. Suck it up or go away. You have a choice of who your insurance carrier is. Take your sense of entitlement somewhere else where you absolutely are just a number. This isn’t marriage. Length of participation does not give you special privileges aside from the discounts. Be grateful you even get that.
