In session zero one of my players (player A) requested that the campaign should have difficult moral choices to make. I was like great no problem.
She and one of the other players (player B) decided to make characters who were sisters and would do anything to protect the other even to the determination of the party.
So after a few months, B had to move and so I came up with a great way to kill off her character which I told her about. But before the next session she told me that the move didn’t work out and wanted to rejoin the campaign. So I gave her a choice: either continue with her character or I kill her off and she makes a new one. She loves my idea and created a new character. And so my evil plan was set in motion.
A few sessions prior the two characters were separated. Last time player A saw player B, she was left in Van Richten’s tower.
But then the party had an encounter with Strahd who demanded the party hand over his Tome. Reluctantly they did. It was then revealed that Strahd had attacked the tower searching for Irena, but she was nowhere to be found and kidnapped Player B instead.
Distraught, A demanded to see her sister again and Strahd was happy to reunite them.
Coming through the fog was her sister who had now been transformed into a vampire spawn.
I handed player A a sheet of paper that gave her a choice. She had to either kill her sister, or allow her sister to kill her. She learned from Van Richten that spawn can regain their mind by killing someone they loved. The Player A was torn with this decision and after of few minutes she decided to let her sister kill her.
And now Player A is playing a vampire version of Player Bs old character.
After the session they told me how great this whole dilemma was. I look forward to seeing what else I can create for them.
