So because of life events and this plague my group hasn't played in a month, and it looks like it will be another few months before we can.
I had the idea to start a Roll 20 game in the meantime. One of my players who joined late has in his backstory he was part of another group who fought strahd and died. Strahd spared his life and then he came across our main party.
My plan is to have a few online sessions where we play as his old party. The player is on board with the idea. We have a few ideas of what has happened story wise but most of it is open. He mentioned having a sister who was part of the group but I made it so that he knew she wasn't dead because he waited in the village of Barrovia and never saw her ghost, but he isn't sure of her fate. I'm thinking Strahd has her as a vampire spawn, or is otherwise captive. In the online games we can just see what happens, as long as it ends with her alive but her fate unknown to the brother.
For the leader of his group I've essentially made Captain Hammer from Dr. Horrible. If you don't know who that is think Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. I think the reckless overconfident leader will be a good way to get the story moving and our characters dead in 3 or 4 sessions.
Any ideas or feedback on this are welcome. Never used Roll 20 before either.
