So my players finally got to Madame Eva. I had planned to rig the main reading and then randomly draw cards for each character and bs something about how it tied into that characters fate. The initial reading went well as planned. I put on my best Romani accent and dimmed the lights and had a plasma ball on the table for a crystal ball. My players made sure to all take a lot of notes during the reading which made me happy.
Then I shuffled the deck and drew cards for each character. First the druid who died and was brought back by the dark powers last session. He drew the dictator. Made up something about how he should be wary of the dark tyrant who brought him back and hinted at the boon he has yet to discover from his resurrection.
Next the cleric got the bishop. Nice! Fighter got the berserker. This is the same player who slaughtered the stuffed wolves in death house on sight. Talked about not being so reckless. Artificer obsessed with creating life from death got the transmuter. Dragonborn searching for his lost sister got the trader. I didn't even have to say that one. He said he knew it meant he would have to give up something to get her back. (Thanks for the assist bro!)
Then we got to Brathilda. Brathilda is an 85 year old female human wizard. She also happens to be partially insane. I drew her card. The traitor.
"Oh no you don't want to see this one my child"
She insisted I show her and the party. Once I did the room fell silent.
"Am... am I a traitor?"
"This path is not set in stone, but if the threads of fate are not altered, I fear you will forsake the ones closest to you."
After the reading everyone was convinced I had rigged the entire thing despite me shuffling the deck between each card. They all said it was too perfect. And I agree, I couldn't have planned it any better.
