Our group just fought Doru last session. The party cleric had used Detect Evil and Good and found the basement had an undead in it. Donovich tried to lie to the party but they found his son and tried to kill him.

During the fight our cleric used her channel divinity to attempt to turn undead. Her holy symbol is a Britney Spears CD. In her backstory her family is very conservative and religious but very hypocritical. As a teen she found this Britney Spears CD and found it's music had magical powers. As she holds it up I play "...Baby One More Time" Turn undead fails but it was still a cool moment.

The fight continues, Doru is sucking health from PCs like they are human juice boxes. They finally realize they should use radiant damage to stop his health regen. Donovich attempts to stab the cleric then busts out a window and runs into the graveyard. They are slowly getting him closer to death when he knocks the party Druid. Cleric uses her last spell slot to heal him. I knock him again. This time his max health is so low he gets insta killed.

The cleric was devastated as this was her in and out of game boyfriend. Cue song, "Goodbye My Lover" DM tries not to smile too much. They finally beat Doru and drag Donovich out of the cemetary. He says he can't help him, and wouldn't if he could.

Session is wrapping up when I look at the druid. "Your turn Sylvass."

"What? I'm dead."

"You wake up on a cold dungeon floor. A path winds down, from which you see dancing lights and hear music playing."

"Uhhhh I guess I go down..."

Cue song, "Le Perv" Live by Carpenter Brut

"In the room in front of you is a mass of bodies all writhing and moving to the beat of the music. On a raised platform past the crowd you see a man wearing black robes and a neon green and black gas mask. He seems to be messing with a strange table that the sounds are emanating from."

"Is... is this a rave?"

"Just then a woman dressed in black leather with long raven hair walks up next to the man in the mask."

"The woman begins to sing beckoning you closer. As the music hits a climax fire erupts from the stage and in a circle around you. A coffin rises from the floor. The woman motions towards the coffin. The fires are closing in, what do you do?

"Fuck uhhh I get in the coffin"

"The coffin lid slams shut as the fire consumes everyone around it. You close your eyes bracing to be burned. And you open your eyes and you are in the church with all your friends standing around you."

So in case it wasn't obvious the two people on stage were both Dark Powers. If the cleric uses music to fuel her powers these entities also use music, mostly Synthwave like Carpenter Brut and Dance With The Dead. I'm going to have these two work as a duo. I'm not sure exactly how all of this will work, but I want end game for them to try and use the party to overthrow Strahd and Vampyr. We will see how it goes though. My players definitely loved it and wouldn't stop talking about how cool it was.
