What happens to the contents, and things, in a bag of holding?

I can't remember the specific line, but I remember seeing mention of how you can't planar travel in Barovia.
How would that work for objects and creatures in a BoH? What would happen to the contents if it's pierced, since normally those would go to the astral plane?
