Post Body

I'm a relatively new DM. I have difficulty deciding on one idea vs others, especially when I'm not sure which is "best".

For example: players are starting soon. I want to get something from them early on, to help Strahd with scrying.

I was thinking of having swarms of bats attack them, trying to grab hair from their scalps.

Perhaps a dire wolf cautiously approaches them, trying to playfully take something from them.

Or an NPC wants to trade person items, and they're a spy for Strahd.

I get so hung up on "which is best/right?". The more I tease one idea, I feel like the others could be equally interesting for different reasons.

How do you handle such situations?
