Judging based on appearance

Post Body

Hello everyone. I just got the Modified Grapes WNC grab bag and upon first inspection it smells a lot like hay and looks very nondescript (homogeneous light green color with orange pistils and some frost). Upon first appearance, I would say that this OZ is pretty terrible but I’ve seen several people on here say they really liked WNC Mod Grapes.

I’m curious to hear more about how/if you guys are judging flower based on appearance (looks/smell).

What do you look/smell for to determine whether the flower will be good?

What are your experiences with having flower where the appearance was not a good indicator of quality?
