Anyone else continue experimenting after a poor first experience?

Our first experience is not one we look back at very fondly. A massive lack in communication and a hard time in our relationship rushed us into a situation we both thought the other needed.
As difficult as it was in the moment we worked on the relationship and gained some “hard no’s” that had us leaving the second experience a lot less emotional!
Just curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar?
