Getting ready for nerve relocation in dominate arm!
Post Body

I got hurt in December by hitting my elbow on a metal divider wall on a counter. It stayed numb from my elbow to all my fingers for a good 24 hours. It’s now the end of August and I’m finally approved for surgery. I tried PT before covid got America but it was mostly just working out the knots that formed in my bicep, back and neck. Has anyone else gotten pain in the track of the whole nerve and headaches from their injury? I have had to stop the strong painkiller I was taking as it made me sick. Now every night if I don’t I’ve and wear a sling in the evenings I feel like my elbow is getting shocked and it travels to my finger tips and feels stuck and heads to my shoulder as well, if I resist and don’t let my arm violently shake and feel like the electricity is escaping my fingers I will have it go through my whole body and it makes my whole body shake and I feel like all of my skin has the electricity shooting out of it to escape. I have never been struck by lightening by I imagine this is what it feels like. I violently shake and my body literally jumps off my bed and into the air a bit. It’s it almost more painful then when I try and hold something too heavy. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions to be ready after surgery? I have heard good and bad things about recovery. I miss working and being able to drive with two hands or write my name without pain. I’m hoping for some words of wisdom to cheer me up. I am very active normally and I will need to be purchasing a sleeve that has a cushion for when I return to my active life as my own safety net so my elbow is safe. I Rollerskate and I would hate to smack the area again too soon on a fall and make things worst. My doctor is a busy man and I don’t get too much time to talk to him? He is very straight forward. He does feel surgery will help me a lot but has said there’s a chance it will not change a thing with the pain or numbness. I am worried I may have this injury impact the rest of my life as I just turned 24 in May. I want to be able to do upper body work outs, go rock climbing, and just use my arm as normal again in the long run how long has it taken others to get close to a full recovery?

Also one of my worries is what does the bandage look like after and are you in a splint where you can’t easily dress yourself. I am trying to figure out day of surgery clothes as well. I’m a female and my dad will be taking me to surgery so i can not get his help putting on clothes after. He has had reconstructive shoulder surgery and the sling had a pillow wrapping around him keeping his arm in one position and he was unable to take it off so we had to cut shirts for him to fit over the whole sling contraption. Is that a similar thing for what I have in store or is it like a cast where you can move it freely?
