Fingertricks slowing me down?

I have just got into cubing and have a Rubik brand cube (I know it's bad) but have a QiYi thunderclap on the way!
I got a PB today of 1 min 1s with beginner method but I turn with my whole wrist if that makes sense and saw on here the fingertricks could help.I tried to solve with fingertrick instead of with whole wrist and got a 3 min solve! My motivation is gone, do you have to use fingertricks?
