I just saw a post on here that asked "what is your dream sub x single?" and I saw so many people who average the same as me (around 16 secs) saying that they dream of a sub10 single. My pb is 8.61s I'm here to tell you that a sub10 single is in reach for anybody whose pb single is like sub13. I didn't get that sub10 because I practiced effectively and utilised all the skills someone who averages sub10 would. I got that single because I've been cubing for 9 years (and stuck sub17 for 3-5 years, not sure exactly how long). I've seen so many scrambles that could've been the sub10 and instead ended up being 10-11 secs. I never practiced effectively, I learned a lot of algorithms but that was just over a lot of years, and most of these I just figured out by spending hours on end messing with the cube. I have so many bad habits that I'll probably never break and that's why I won't be in the sub12 region (unless I get serious about getting faster). If you really dream of getting one sub10 single and then walking away happily, then I'm telling you, the solution is spending a lot of time messing with the cube and getting familiar with it, and then just doing thousands and thousands of solves until you get that one lucky scramble. But it won't make you any better than you were before you got the sub10. I don't recommend this method, but if you really do seek the dream sub x single, it's not hard, it just takes time (and it doesn't even need to be time well spent). I don't feel any fulfillment from that PB single, it was just another solve, it has no reflection on my ability as a speedcuber, and I'm much more proud when I get a sub 13 ao5 or a sub 16 ao100(again just by grinding and waiting for luck, and for me to be having a good day) than when I rarely get a sub10 single.
