My 10 year old son keeps breaking cubes, is a better cube going to help significantly??

All he's ever had are cheap ones, and he can pretty consistently solve them in 32-25ish seconds, but trying to get sub-30 has him breaking every cube. I don't mind replacing cubes, and I don't mind buying him an expensive one at all. I just want to know is this constant breaking of cubes a skill issue, or more of an issue of the cheap product not holding up??

The one that he wants he showed me is $90, which is cool, but I can't afford to replace those over and over again.
