Hey there, I've been a long-time Lovecraft fan since discovering his work in high school. After reading through his complete fiction (this edition), I've been looking for some more lovecraftian work to sink my teeth into.
I've tried some I love (like this) and I've since really enjoyed Clark Ashton Smith, Robert Bloch, and Algernon Blackwood. I also have Ramsey Campbell on my to-read list thanks to the above collection.
My current issue is that I love the style and purple prose of these writers just as much as I enjoy the cosmic horror and dread! I seem to be in the minority here, because looking at some popular Lovecraftian collections I have seen several that proudly proclaim things like "No pastiches, no period pieces..." on their marketing matter. I'm all for modernizing the mythos and bringing it to different settings and times, but I just love the type of 'pretentious pulp' writing style that Lovecraft and a few others operated in.
So for all of you old-school, archaic Lovecraft fans out there, what are some good collection/authors to look out for?
