Real life “retirement balls deep” people

You see people jokingly reference those who took out their retirement early and put all into crypto. They usually are using those people as an example of what not to do in terms of not being over leveraged.

However, just to play devils advocate, if one of my coworkers took out their 401k early and paid the penalties then put it all into crypto, would that person be a fool or just someone making a huge bet with money they won’t need for decades and have time to make up losses since they’re young?
