I need help understanding something about wallets!

I have Coinbase in which I own a small amount of ADA. I haven't purchased more because I am simply confused on if I should be buying this on a "wallet" or something. I am new to crypto this year and don't want to invest on this app if I am supposed to be doing it differently. I don't understand if I need coinbase AND a wallet (I've been recommended Yoroi") or if coinbase IS my wallet and exchange. If someone can explain to me like a child I would appreciate it!
