Are there any platforms attempting to build messaging layer services?

I know that they all do to some extent, but namely I'm wondering if there's any ICOs out there working on a service platform that could handle fast microservices well enough that it could be integrated into fast paced multiplayer games. Something approximate to PubNub or Layer.
There would be a huge market it for it - paying for those networks can be cost prohibitive to indies. There also certainly could be incentive for something like this.
