Question about Succession?

So here's the scenario; I am the Duke of Rashka, through some nifty maneuvering and murdering, my son is the heir to the county of Thessaly which is in the Byzantine Empire.
When I die and my brother-son inherits the Duchy of Rashka, will he also inherit the County of Thessaly? And, in that vein, would he become a vassal of Byzantium? Or would Thessaly become part of Rashka? I am a bit confused.
