Edit 1 - why did I get tested?
I made an appointment at medical for swimmers ear. They took my vitals and my heart rate was high. They decided to do a covid test. Came back positive and I'm on antibiotics for swimmers ear now
Edit 2 - wording of title.
I am being quarantined for the rest of the cruise. My family is currently in quarantine until tomorrow at around dinner time. They'll get tested at that time. If they're positive, they need to quarantine. If they're negative, they can continue to cruise as normal.
Edit 3 - I'll keep the thread updated as things happen and keep responding to questions. I won't respond to chats or DMs.
Edit 4 - transport to new cabin new cabin details
I got to my new room. I was put on deck 3. It's close to the medical facility which is deck 2. The transport from my original cabin (deck 9) to the quarantined one was simple. I was escorted by one security guard and one Hazmat suit spraying something behind me which kills the virus (no idea).
I walked down the long cabin hallway. There were security checkpoints throughout. A guard was waiting near staff doors. The access into the hallway I was walking in was cutoff. The doors for guests to enter were closed. I was brought to a staff elevator where I was brought down to my new cabin.
The cabin is the same thing I was staying in before with a could slight changes. Firstly, I'm alone instead of sharing so I have a double bed instead of a single. Next, I was provided with purell wipes, some cleaning chemicals, gloves, rags, etc. The room came stocked with a few extra towels and a bag containing basic hygiene products - toothbrush/toothpaste, razor/shaving cream, deodorant, a hair comb, and hand sanitizer.
I have a window as well.
The weirdest thing that I immediately noticed was the plastic wrap over the carpet on the floor. No idea why it's there but it is. It's not an issue but it makes bubble wrap noise when walking on it so slightly annoying.
Edit 5 - cases onboard
While I was being escorted, I asked how many positive cases there were on the ship during this cruise. I was told 4 cases. I don't believe it. I when I was brought to the designated covid cabins (deck 3), there seemed to be a lot more than 4 occupied. Many rooms have empty food boxes and coffees, etc. on nightstands they placed outside each door. So take that number with a grain of salt.
Edit 6 - contact tracing
I was called by the deputy security guard and was asked to fill a contact tracing form. This was basically recalling everywhere I've been in the 48 hours before I started noticing symptoms, so morning December 25th to morning December 27. Honestly it was hard to accurately remember everything I did. They asked how many times I used a public bathroom, the deck and time, for example. I didn't need to fill out everything. All pages said I didn't need to fill in all the boxes if I didn't remember.
Edit 7 - thank you's all around
I am headed to bed now. I'll continue responding tomorrow and will continue updating as things happen.
I truly appreciate all the kind words from everyone. It seriously made me smile in such a difficult and unfortunate situation. Be safe everyone! <3
Edit 8 - first full day in isolation
I ordered some room service breakfast. I got some fried eggs (overcooked but whatever), a side of hash browns, bacon, pork and chicken sausage. I got some coffee and orange juice and a couple pastries. They also brought me more water and a bucket of ice. The breakfast was ok. It was still warm but no hot when I received it.
I spent most of my day watching the blacklist in bed.
I just ordered dinner from the dining room now. I'll update it when I get it. I plan to watch some TV
Edit 9 - family
My family was in isolation in their cabins on deck 9 for 24 hours following my positive result. They got tested in the middle of the afternoon. They needed to wait a few hours for their results.
I am happy to say that they all tested negative! They can continue to cruise as normal. They are at Jamie's Italian for dinner tonight!
