First time Bahamas cruise questions.

I'll be going on my first cruise to the Bahamas in February for my honeymoon. I have a passport, but my fiance only has an enhanced license. I know you can cruise to the Bahamas with the enhanced, but I'm wondering if there is a benefit or reason he should get a passport instead, like would it be faster or more convenient or anything?

Also is there any advice for a first time cruise? Things we should bring? Do? Is the Bahamas safe to travel around outside of cruise excursions?

We are going on MSC mergivalia in February.
