Looking for footwork advice

Post Body

I'm at a place in playing FPS where I have solidified a strong foundation in essential skills but am lacking just minor improvements that can take me from average/casual to above average or higher. I'm not talking about aim. Ik there are plenty of posts here as well as everywhere else on the internet on improving my aim. While my aim isn't the greatest, what I find I need the most to improve on is being able to survive when my aim fails me in a gun fight. I'm sure you all can at least imagine the frustration of getting into a gunfight with someone where most of your shots miss and instead of making like one of your favorite YouTuber/streamer and escaping the situation to survive for the next gun fight you die before you can escape the fight yet you would bet your left testicle/ovary that if you didn't choke you would've made it around that corner to safety. My problem is that in most of my gunfights, regardless of my advantage I somehow manage to be a mile away from the corner I was peeking from, turn around and somehow get caught in the same wall that was supposed to be my safety, or derp while finding what key to press so that I sprint instead of throw my grenade.

To put my inquiry simply, I'd like to know what you Unbrokens or other PvP legends do to have usually impeccable footwork. It's not so simple as key binds, because I could change my key binds all day and still find myself running into a corner like I was put in timeout. It sort of goes beyond just situational awareness if that makes sense. Like, are there exercises you practiced that shorten the time between ending engagement and escaping around the corner? What are your personal limitations when in the middle of the engagement that you set for yourself so that you don't overextend? Obviously the key binding question, but more than that why do you choose the bindings you use? Any and all advice on improving my maneuverability is welcome.

I put in a couple of search terms to see if there were any previous posts here relevant to my questions but I didn't find anything at first that answered mine specifically. But anything you can reference is more than welcome.

This is a good post. Some people have next level movement in this game. Iā€™m guessing most of it feel based but like anything, there is a way to reverse engineer it. Great topic.
