Temp gauge 2004 MGM

On the highway after work today, the temp gauge on the far left of my digital dash went all the way up while accelerating. It was about 90 and the air conditioner was on. My ride is about 15 minutes. I checked and there are no codes. Anyone have an idea as to what it could be? Iām going to check the fluids in the morning.
Edit: the temp gauge did alert me (sounded like the low fuel alert). It also sounded like the car shifted on its own to avoid an overheating issue.
