A while back I was having an issue with my MGM, especially on the highway. Upon acceleration and change in gears, it felt like the car was on rumble strips.
Someone suggested to do spark plugs and coils which should solve my problem. $80 on Amazon for all 8 motorcraft spark plugs and 8 coils. I noticed that recently all of the injectors had been replaced. When I was taking off the old coils and spark plugs, I noticed the following:
The coils were all mismatched and one was even fried. One of them was ACDelco, and another was original from the factory. Not sure why they didn’t all get replaced at once before but certainly a potential cause to my problems.
I found that two of the spark plugs were lose and did not have good connection. This could’ve also been a cause to my problems. Not only that but if I hadn’t changed them, I very well could have destroyed the engine.
Now that I have changed those, it feels like I am driving a different car. The engine has so much more pep on the highway. I believe that the previous owner did mostly city miles so he probably never noticed the need for new coils or spark plugs. There also weren’t any codes.
Next step: Short Ram Intake
Thank you all for your help!
