Is this game more like pillers of eternity or more like pathfinder

I've heard this game is pretty combat focused. My main issue with the 2 pathfinder games is the enormous amount of filler fights that can get very tedious, something I don't find in poe or bg for example. Does this game have a lot of that? Or is it pretty balanced between combat and story?
