problem with crouton in dev channel

I'm running a Pixel in dev channel and basic crouton. My crouton install worked perfectly in stable but now in dev, my mouse/trackpad/keyboard inputs are all unresponsive. I can move the mouse on the screen but nothing will happen if I click. (I switched to dev channel because it fixed my WiFi disconnection issue but now it seems like I have a new problem.)
