Controller can't connect to linux beta, flag gone

A while ago there was a flag that allowed unsupported USB devices to connect to linux beta. This included controllers. This flag is now gone for me and I don't know how to connect the controller to linux beta. Obviously I can pass it to Chrome os fine, but using the command "lsusb" I can tell that it doesn't pass to linux beta. I am not a dumb person and know how linux works so can anyone tell me if there is a workaround that I can try or any method to try to get the controller to work apart from waiting for official support from google which will likely take ages.
