I'm sorry if this has been answered before, I've looked and couldn't find an answer.

So when use 2 strands I make a loop and thread my needle with the thread folded in half....how do I thread my needle using only one strand (like for back stitching) ? I typically use the method of leaving a tail but the needle ALWAYS gets pulled off the thread. There must be a better way to do this

Also, what's the best way to grid your fabric?
