Does anyone have advice on stitching in miniature?

I'm considering making the Universal Monster SAL on a higher count aida - say 20 - and reducing to a single thread rather than 2.

(1) Can anyone with experience in converting patterns like this offer me any advice? EDIT: Conversion might not be the right word ... but basically, I'm just looking for advice from people who have taken a 14/16 suggested pattern down to something like a 22 or 28 count fabric.

(2) Can anyone working on this SAL comment on if this conversion will work or not? I think it should be OK based on what I've seen in pictures, with the exception that some of the back stitching may require revising, but I think I can manage that.
