Crohn’s Disease, Pregnancy, False Positive STI TESTING
Post Body

Hello, I have CD and this is my first pregnancy. Has anyone had trouble with the STI testing they do? Ive never had a positive test before never had to be tested because I never had any symptoms but I tested positive for syphilis. My husband has tested non reactive. I know that systemic autoimmune diseases can trigger a false positive but the doctors are not believing me. This pregnancy has been so hard and the stress just triggers my Crohns. Im hoping that i can get answers. Ive been to 2 different obgyns and did the treatment of penicillin because if I didnt they have said they could take my baby for negligence of medical treatment. So I am wondering if anyone has had something like this happen? I’m searching for a miracle really. It took me a year and a half to be diagnosed with CD because doctors, hospitals, and nurses dismissed what I had to say. Tbh I am tired. I am tired of fighting.

Thank you so much! I have a similar situation. When I was younger i experienced Bartholian cysts. My first gyno did all the test and i tested positive for syphilis on both the RPR and FTA, but I wasn’t sexual active yet nor was I having any symptoms. She performed the examine and I had no signs of anything. So it was deemed false positive. The thing is shortly after the doctor performed my marsupilation she stopped practicing so I have no records of it.

Thank you so much! I talked to my Crohn’s doctor and they said they can’t help me because not enough studies have been made that Crohn’s can cause false positive, but they did acknowledge that systemic diseases (like Crohn’s) can create false positives. This has been so tiring. I’m mentally drained and I’m worried it might affect the baby. I’m struggling with this pregnancy so bad. Thank you so much for replying.
