I’ve been suffering with Crohn’s since I was 16. My biggest issue is urgency, cramping and diarrhea. I’ve tried multiple oral medications (like budesonide, prednisone etc). I’ve tried Humira (failed it), Remicade (totally worked for my intestines but gave me drug induced lupus) and now I have been on Stelara for a loading dose and then two or three at home jabs.
During this time, my old primary care doctor has been so accommodating and understanding. She had Crohn’s too.
She’s been writing a 3 day a script for 5mg Oxycodone- so about 18 pills for three months. I can’t believe how well it helps me. It gets rid of the body pain, internal pain and the diarrhea while having almost no other effect on me. (I was never the type that got euphoria from it.)
I thought for awhile I was becoming addicted (never took more than one dose a day), but I realized that I was just addicted to feeling better. Not addicted to some recreational side effect (I know addiction is addiction and that is not a reason to justify it)
I’ve moved unfortunately and no longer have that doctor. My new primary told me to try a pain management doctor, and the pain management said that he only prescribed things to people with spinal or injury issues, not digestive disease. Regardless of me having had a bowel resection.
I am just so frustrated. I know I can’t rely on pills, but I am so so frustrated that painkillers are the only thing that help the symptoms. I just wrote this to vent. I am sure we have all experienced this frustration before….
