Baby Blanket - Too soon to start?

Hey-o. One of my dearest friends is newly pregnant. Like only a few weeks along. Is it too soon to start planning and start a baby blanket for her? I think it might be, but also, I have a terrible habit of starting something and then losing interest about 2/3 through and not picking it back up. So I thought it would give me extra time to get a baby blanket done in time. Thoughts? Am I crazy to think about starting a baby blanket this early?
