Seems like Xiaomi phones no longer work? Any good recommendations?

I've been using a xiaomi redmi note 8 for 2 years now and it's worked great. Decided to upgrade to a redmi note 9 pro, sim card wouldn't work.. apparently it's not supported. I've been looking at getting an ROG phone 5 or a asus zenfone 7. Any clue if this would work on cricket? Any recommendations?
