I wanted to talk about the Aus team not having Cameron Green as a 5th bowler. Him playing is having another frontline bowler - 200cm and can bowl 140km/hr. Iāve seen many comments saying heās not that good at bowling, cummins barely bowled him etc. 1. When he first came into the team he had āworkload restrictionsā of 8 overs max per innings etc. due to back issues and wasnāt allowed to bowl at max pace 2. This, along with his Stage 2 chronic kidney disease meant management were careful not to over-work him. He needs to be constantly hydrated, where even the slightest feeling of dehydration can cause cramps.
Look at his bowling in the Ashes 2021-22: 13 wickets @ 15.46, consistently 140km/hr , key wickets (Joe Root, Stokes multiple times each). I truly think Green can get back to this level post-surgery. Bumrah had similar back surgery and is bowling like a robot.
However, without him for this BGT, there is no āgenuine fourth-seamerā or even proper 5th bowling option - Marsh has chipped in with some wickets yes, but his body barely allows him to bowl and his pace has dropped off into the 120s (trundler). Australia were missing that in the first test, where we had to witness Marnus chucking pies at Kohli. I have seen on Reddit and other websites of calls to include Beau Webster (been bowling well recently and can provide extra bounce like Green), but Marsh is considered one of the āTop 6 best batsā in Australia. Smith isnāt getting dropped yet imo and Marnus has found some sort of form.
What do you guys think is the best way to move forward until Green is fully fit ? Do you think the cartel can handle the workload/ Lyon compensating extra ?
