We often come across a situation in cricket where a ball is down the legside and there is an appeal for catch by fielding team.
How would you feel if in such a situation, the batsman starts to rub on his back/thigh/hip where the ball crossed, so as to give an impression that the noise was from the ball hitting body and not the bat? Would it be against the spirit of Cricket?
I personally feel its against the spirit of Cricket but one of my friends made some arguments in favour of the batsman:
1) Bowlers also appeal uselessly a lot of times, even when they know its not out to put pressure on umpires/batsmen. Why cant batsman balance it by pretending to be hit on body instead of bat?
2) When a batsman actually edges the ball, but umpire gives not out, its not considered against the spirit of cricket if the batsman doesn't walk off the field by himself, even though this also is a case of dishonesty.
3) Its prominent in sports such as football where players exaggerate their pain to earn penalty etc.
Tbh, I won't be surprised if we see this in future by a batsman.
Looking forward to your views :)
