This is really just the beginning of my credit journey. I am out of college with a student loan of about $5,800 that was sent to collections, and I cannot afford to pay it right now. My credit is 600 FICO, and I recently got approved for the Discover It Secured Card and I've been using that for all of my purchases. My question is should I open up a second or third secured card to build up a credit base and to build up a good relationship with some of the credit card companies? My thinking is down the road if I have a two or three card base my average credit life will be longer and therefore my score will improve when I can eventually pay off my debt. For those that are wondering, I have tried to apply for unsecured cards but I was denied every time. What is my next move here? Do I wait for my Discover Graduation or get the cards under my belt now?
