Hey everyone! I’m 25 years old. My parents, as great as they are, never bought into the credit card idea. My dad’s idea of a good credit profile is “no debt”. He never used/still doesn’t use credit cards. He’s talked through the basics with me and has really hammered home the “don’t spend what you don’t have” idea. That being said, in this day and age I feel I need a credit card. I like the reward points/travel points aspect of it and unlike my parents, if there’s a trip I want to go on or a vacation I want to take, I usually don’t have ~1000 bucks sitting in the bank account ready to disappear at the click of a button.
So here’s my credit profile:
Score: credit karma showing 601, experian showing 640
Age: 5 years, 9 months.
Debt: 6k in student loan debt. (3 seperate loans. 1 3k loan, and two 1.5k loans from EDFinancial).
6k car loan (just got it 2 months ago)
$275 balance on discover secured credit card. ($300 limit, paying that balance on Friday)
Credit cards: discover secured card w $300 limit. (Account opened in march 2024)
Collections: none.
Hard inquiries: my report is showing 1. From a capital one card application in 2023. I was also denied an American Airlines travel card this morning, so soon to be 2 hard inquiries that have not been approved.
Annual income: 45k base commissions, works out to around 60-70k a year.
I need another credit card. Looking for any unsecured card, hopefully with at least a $500 limit. I’ve done capital one, discover, citi bank pre approvals and denied for all of them.
The only unsecured card im pre approved for is a CreditOne card. How are they? Any experiences? Or what do yall suggest I look into? Thanks for any and all help!
