I’m 19 years old and I haven’t had a credit card yet nor do I ever plan to use one.
My ideology is why borrow? If you don’t have the money you shouldn’t buy it. Also the thought that everything needs to be financed now through credit upsets me
My family and friends suggest that I use one and grow my credit history and score. My question to you guys is if having credit scores and history seriously as useful as people make it seem?
I want to live life without credit just out of spite, am I just making it harder for myself?
“if you don’t have the money you shouldn’t buy it”
but what if you do have the money? and your CC gives you 2% cash back on the purchase? and you can leave your money sitting in your HYSA accruing interest before your statement is due?
there are ways to use credit cards responsibly and have them work for you. i made $710 in cash back last year, and $450 already this year. some people fund vacations from the points they accrue on their cards.
by not using credit cards responsibly you are missing out on rewards/money.
i strongly recommend using a budget to help you use credit cards responsibly. this way you only spend money that’s been budgeted for. i don’t know what my credit limits on my CCs are because those shouldn’t inform how much i spend. my budget informs my spending.
