I am relatively new to credit have been doing a lot of creditcard research lately. I seem to have fallen into a rabbithole of, every single card or series of cards I am looking at is good for their own reasons. I currently own the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Capital One Venture X card. I was planning to finish the Chase trifecta, but then I saw a lot of posts and got recommendations for the Amex line. If I go the full chase route then I would eventually have the
Chase Freedom Flex (Quarterly Spending Categories),
Chase Freedom Unlimited (Drug Store, highest general cashback),
Chase Sapphire Preferred (General Dining, Delivery Services, Streaming Services)
Chase Sapphire Reserve (Chase Travel, Chase Dining, General Travel, Lyft)
If I go the Amex route I would likely get the
Amex Gold (Restaurants, Groceries)
Amex Platinum (Flights, Hotels)
Amex Green (Transit)
Assuming I have the income to afford the annual fees without issue, and I do not run into the issue of overspending due to having a high credit limit, is there a downside to having both of these lines? It feels like there are a lot of redundancies between them but also there are certain things each line has the other doesnt. If I do travel a decent amount, such as at least 1 international trip a year and multiple domestic trips a year, is that enough to justify having the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Amex Plat? if that is the case is it worth also keeping the Capital One Venture X as well?
I am new to all this and I believe I was overwhelmed with how much information I got too quickly. I have seen posts from some people saying they have both lines, and even more, but I do not know if that is really uncommon and only good in specific scenarios or if its generally fine to do this since those same posts generally glorify owning as many credit cards as possible to fully maximize points. If I am overthinking this a lot or missing something obvious also please let me know.
