Hello! I'm a 20-year-old college student looking to build my credit history, and I'm wondering if getting a 2nd credit card will aid in that and if so, which to get.
Current credit cards you are the primary account holder of: Chase Freedom Unlimited, $2,500 limit, 02/2022
FICO Scores with source: Experian 785, Chase says 750 for some reason, anyone know why?
Oldest credit card account age with you as primary name on the account: 25 months
Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 6 months: 0
Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 12 months: 0
Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 24 months: 0
Annual income $: No job at the moment but my best guess is approximately $5,000 from dividends (could be way off, not really sure sorry)
CATEGORIES
OK with category-specific cards?: Yes and no. Open to the idea if it seems to benefit me. Personally don't see how it would benefit me specifically.
OK with rotating category cards?: Yes and no again. Open to the idea, haven't seen examples of where it would benefit me.
Estimate average monthly spend in the categories below:
Dining $: Averages out to around $10-20
Groceries $: $75 (on a meal plan at college)
Gas $: Most months $0, but summer and break months/weeks its maybe $100-$150 so averaged out around $25
Travel $: $0
Other categories: $25-$50 on Amazon purchases Amazon Price subscription
MEMBERSHIPS & SUBSCRIPTIONS
Current member of Amazon Prime?: Yes
Current Verizon postpaid customer?: On VZ, yes. I do not pay for it though as I am on a family plan with my dad.
Current member of Costco or Sam's Club?: No
Currently paying $13.99/month or more for Disney Bundle (Disney / Hulu / EPSN ) or other Hulu services?: Yes, though Verizon. Again, I am not the one paying for it though.
Current member of Chase, US Bank or any other big bank?: Yes
Active US military?: No
Are you open to Business Cards?: No
PURPOSE
What's the purpose of your next card?: Building credit and earning rewards
Do you have any cards you've been looking at?: Prequalified for Chase Sapphire Preferred, but not really interested because of the annual fee and heavy emphasis on travel rewards.
So,
- Should I get a second credit card given my goals?
- What are the pros and cons of getting a second card?
**TLDR**: 20M, Chase Freedom Unlimited, 785 FICO, looking to build (more) credit and get a second card with no annual fees. Suggestions? Thanks!
