Venture x and Amex platinum which do I use where?

We currently have the venture x as our only credit card and love it. We are thinking about also getting the Amex platinum for the perks as well. My question is when should we be using one over the other. The venture x is always 2x points for every purchase. Where as the Amex is 1x everywhere. Both have multipliers for booking hotels through their respected websites. Should the venture x still be used as the primary and the Amex mainly used for the perks? Use the Amex enough to get the welcome points and then back to the venture x?
