Current cards:
- AMEX Everyday - $5k limit, 2/8/23 (Opened for improving credit history)
- Citi Double Cash - $3k limit, 11/2/23 (Catch-all before I get the Chase cards)
FICO Score: 733
- Rejected 3x for Chase United Gateway cards in Jan.-June 2023, my FICO score in Jan. 2023 was 779 (had no idea what I was doing at the time)
Oldest account age: 11 months
Chase 5/24 status: 2/24
Do you have any cards you've been looking at?:
- Chase Freedom Flex - 5x category spending
- Chase Freedom Unlimited - 1.5x spending to fill the gaps in my setup, thinking of getting this a year after the CFF so I don't overlap the 5x SUBs
- Chase Sapphire Preferred - Using for travel, dining, spotify sub, and any foreign transactions
- Chase United Gateway - Getting for 2x gas when the CFF/CFU 5x runs out decent SUB
- Bilt Mastercard - For rent 1st of the month spending with United as a travel partner
Currently planning to get into the Chase ecosystem because they have United as a travel partner which is a hub where I live plus the UR rewards are very flexible with Hyatt.
This is my current plan:
- Feb. 2024 - Apply for the CFF when oldest account age hits 1 year
- Aug. 2024 - Apply for the CSP 6 months later
- Feb. 2025 - Apply for the CFU 1 year after the CFF so I can get 5x for 2 years
- Bilt Mastercard I'm thinking can be anywhere between May 2024 and May 2025, but I'd like to get it sooner than later to take advantage of rent days
- Chase United Gateway will be ~3-6 months after I complete the trifecta
I'm still new to the CC game so my plan might not be the best. Some questions:
- Could I reduce the wait time between Chase applications to 3 months? I'm just concerned that my credit score might get too low but I'm not sure
- Will the SUB offer for the CFU even last until Feb. 2025? If it doesn't I'll probably get the CFU 2nd and the CSP 3rd
- Am I correct in thinking my FICO score will even out a bit more over the course of 2024 since I did like 4 hard inquiries in the first half of 2023?
- At some point in time I want to go for the Chase United Explorer or even the Quest SUB, but I'll have the United Gateway already. Would I close the United Gateway a year later and apply for the United Explorer/Quest then downgrade after getting the SUB?
- Am I at risk of denial with my current plan?
- Will the order of applications determine the credit limit for each card? For example, I want a higher CL for the CFU but if I get it last would I get a lower CL since I already have two Chase cards?
