I’m really thinking of simplifying my credit cards. I played the game for years and I have a pretty high organic spend ($7K-ish/ month) so getting sign up bonuses was easy and money in my pocket. Coupled that with high business and personal travel and the perks became beneficial and worthwhile. However I’ve noticed particularly in the past year the perks are getting increasingly stingy and the hassle of keeping up with credits and various point currency devaluations has become frustrating and not worth it to me anymore.
I’m planning on slowly streamlining my credit card lineup to maybe 3 cards that covers everything I need. I used to be a HUGE Amex Platinum proponent and I loved my Platinum card but I became so fed up with the changes I cancelled it. Between the coupon book credit and $75K spend requirement for guest access to Centurion lounge and now cutting Delta Sky Club access to 6 visits per year…I finally had enough. I love their customer service but I’m done with the nickel and diming on a $700/ year card.
So what I currently have left is the Delta Platinum card which I plan on cancelling next year before the AF hits. I also have the CSP/CF/CFU as well as the Hyatt card and a Marriott Boundless and IHG card that I sort of forgot about in my drawer. I’d really just like to simplify everything.
I plan on keeping the CSP just to keep an Ultimate Rewards card and also the Hyatt card because I stay there frequently for business and personal. I would like to add one “catch all” card that gives me a decent return on regular spend- Costco, Amazon, gas stations, grocery stores, etc etc. I’ve done some research and it sounds like US Bank Altitude Reserve or Capital One Venture X are good contenders. Any other options?
What would you all recommend ?
