So context, I had 5 different CC that have all been closed. For some background I had them all running and making regular payments with no issues. I then went out of work with no pay due to a medical issue with my back that prevented me from working. When I first went out I had no idea I would be out as long as I was (14months) without pay and ended up maxing all of them and not being able to make any payments on them. 3 of them were 2500$ limits 2 at 2k. All if them have since been closed and " charged off" or "written off as a loss" on my credit report. Now they have all been picked up by debt collections companies and I am now in the state of being threatened legal action for non payment etc. I guess I'm wondering if it's best to try and pay these debt collectors or just ignore them. I have heard that once something is charged off like that the original companies has cut ties and the new people have no right to the debt etc. My cc score is now pike 525 so idk if it's even worth it to worry about or not.. I'm back to work now and being garnished by my place of employment for my insurance premiums while i was out etc and I have no disposable income to really pay any more then maybe 200 a month towards anything ATM. What should I do?
